A recent article by the National Hardware Show outlined a few of the key outdoor living trends that we can expect in 2014. Here is a recap and our input:
- Enhancing your outdoor living area: We couldn’t agree more! As we travel around Atlanta, west Alabama and the area, we find that more and more folks are engaging in a “staycation”, which allows them to have a great time, save money and decompress from the everyday stress in their lives. Extending the indoors out with quality underdecking is a great way to enhance your area. The article says, “The desire to expand outside leaves consumers shopping for products that are tough enough to stand up to bad weather, but attractive enough for entertaining.” We can make that possible!
- Including bright and cheerful colors: Outdoor accessories should be bold and coordinated with your indoor living area. “Cushions for outdoor seating used to only be replaced when they wore out, but now consumers consider them as accessories, the article points out. “When people are looking to replace those cushions or jazz it up with pillows,” Jordan Manufacturing’s Martin says. “They want to incorporate more color.”
- Setting up the right outdoor grilling area: Here in Atlanta, we can grill almost year-round (although this year’s crazy polar vortex put a bit of the kabosh on it for a few weeks). Generally speaking, though, grilling is a sport here in the South and trends include different types of meats and serious grilling equipment, too! The good news is that with a dry, covered area, your grill’s life is extended, so go ahead and invest in that super-duper grill!
No matter what the trend-setters and trend-experts say, we’ve known for a long time that Southerners like to be outdoors as much as possible. It’s great to see more people treating their outdoor space like an extension of their home.
